My initial idea was to place my key space, the departure lounge, beneath the water feature in front of Parliament House. The pool would then form the ceiling of my building, with an elliptical glass base which would help disperse light more evenly throughout the space. The walls were intended to be uneven to allow more light dispersion.
Planning for how these spaces would relate to each other was also undertaken, with the space between the entrance and the platforms creating the storage space for the interchangeable train carriages. It was intended that a light rail or bus system would connect the two spaces underground and pass through the storage and interchange area to integrate passengers with the architecture and allow them to see how the system works.
As the platforms would be required to be over 300m long, they would extend under parliament house. In order to provide indirect light throughout the station, a sawtooth ceiling was considered as it would allow for indirect light to be dispersed throughout the station, creating for of a 'daylight' feeling.
